Digital Markers in Radiography

I'm wondering if anyone's department has a written policy/procedure for use of electronic markers to fix errors/ommissions. 6  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

Our Dept does not have one either but I see it coming in the future.. for legal purposes. It wasn't acceptable to write on the films so how does electronic markers make it any different. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree. I've noticed a huge issue with digital coning as well. Exposing the whole abdomen and digitally coning it to a lumbar spine! Yikes. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The "Digital World" coming to Radiography is great. BUT!!!!! I believe people are becoming slack. The 1st principles of Good Radiography have not changed and so things like Side Markers, Collimation, Filtration, Radiation Protection, etc. are still as valid as they were in the Film/Screen era.

They also still have an impact upon Image Quality and the diagnostic efficacy of what we do as Medical Imaging Professionals. To quote my student-days Chief Radiographer, "Attention to detail is the hallmark of the good Radiographer".

Up-Shot: If you know that these things are required to be applied as Good Radiographic Practice, then surely you do them, do you not????? whether your "Employer" mandates them or not!

I do them but have just started as Section Head for our department, which we have been without for many years and I am trying to steer our techs to better quality & patient care.

I just want to dot the i's and cross the t's with printed policies from other places we can adapt.

Digital markers are poor practice. It is true that the image is "indelibly marked" with a side marker (thus complying with standards in australia as far as I am aware), but it really is poor practice. There is still potential to make an assumption about the image and label according to your assumption. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?
