I have a maisonnueve fracture,, help
Feb 7 2012, 11:34 AM EST
I was recently diagnosed with a maisonnueve fracture of my right fibula (can't drive!). Is there anyone out there who can share a similar story with me ? My Orthopedist placed me in a boot cast, can't bear any weight for at least 2 more weeks (today is 2/7/12). Everyone I tell about it has never heard of this type of injury. I just need someone to talk with that has gone through this aggravating injury, I thought I just sprained my ankle,, until the pain in my lower leg became unbearable,, x rays revealed the bad news. Please feel free to reply.Mike Do you find this valuable? |

There is life again, just takes time and a very smart and compassionate doctor. Do you find this valuable? |

Hi ... Not wishing to cause further confusion but if the only treatment you had was a boot cast then I question whether you in fact have a maisonnueve fracture. The mechanism of injury for this type of fracture is commonly a twisting injury at the ankle joint where the energy associated with that force dissipates higher up the fibula causing the fracture. The significance of this is that it pretty much is always associated with an unstable ankle joint and invariably requires surgery of the ankle. So, out of interest how did you injure yourself and how else was the fracture described (transverse, spiral, proximal vs distal vs mid shaft fibula .....? etc) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
