Another table-free technique
Jun 21 2010, 4:36 AM EDT
A good tableless technique for a less mobile patient is to get them to sit on a relatively high chair (the one pictured in the article would work if it was set to a higher position) with their knees flexed and their feet on the floor. The patient has to be sitting close to the edge of the chair to allow adiquate fexion of the knee joint. Then place an object such as a block, stool or step with the digital cassette on directly against their shins. The patients knees should be flexed back so the patella is directly over the cassette You can then use a straight, vertical tube pointing straight down and centered on the femoropatellar joint. This has the added advantage of reducing the effective dose as the beam is pointed at the floor, not the patient. Do you find this valuable?

That'a a good technique. We had to do a sunrise position on one of our patients and she cant even sit on the table. But the tech is really good, she still got a perfect picture in just one shot.
