Hi Im a radiology technologist student and having diffiiculties understanding what the "Anode Heel Effect" is. Could some one explain to me or direct me to any source of information that can easy explain this concept 8 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you?

X-rays are formed within the target (not just on the surface) which is wedge shaped. Rays that exit through the target back toward the cathode side of the table pass through much less target material then those which end up on the anode side. (try and draw what I've just said, the visual helps a lot) This results in the beam on the anode side having more filtration applied to it, weakening the beam.
