Radiation Safety in Fluoroscopy / Image Intensifier Procedures

Hi everyone,

I recall seeing a diagram once that showed the best area to stand during screening procedures. I roughly remember it as being a "figure-8" radiation field, with the safest place to stand being behind the Radiologist or lead curtain. The highest being near the patient's head and feet, due to scatter.

Is anybody able to cast any information on this?

Thank you

There are pics like you describe in K L Bontrager, Textbook of Radiographic Positioning and Related Anatomy, 4 Ed.

There are adapted pics in a Rad Safety booklet produced by the Australian Orthopaedic Assosciation. That booklet can fbe found at http://www.aoa.org.au/docs/radsafety.pdf

Great, the one I was looking for and more. Very comprehensive. The comparative background dose and risk of stochastic effects to each body area should be more widely available and taught to all radiographers. Do you find this valuable?
