How much do you make as a technologist?

Tell us what state you live in. How long have you been working? What you started out making. How much you make now. How much schooling did you do before becoming a licensed tech? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Heres some research done into pay rates in the United States (the wages seem far lower than in Australia)

I've added this to the Radiography as a Career page. It would be really handy if rads who work in the public system would post the current PDY wages, or link to their current state award. It's public knowledge, so I can't imagine there is a problem with it. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Tulsa, Ok student techs make $15 an hour. Upon registry, we make $18-$19 an hour. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

My first year, in the 80's, students made nothing, training at hospital affiliate.
The second year, we made just above minimum wage, took call and were lucky to receive a stipend payment to help with scrubs & lab jackets.
Following ARRT registration (1983), I made almost $9 / hour.
For each year of experience, I have received only about a 50 cent increase in hourly pay.
You do the math.

A few years ago, I heard the national, U.S. median was $24/hr.
Maybe I should be singing "Oklahoma, here I come!" ---?
How am I doing?
Well, I was better, but now I am over it.

My advice; Choose a specialized modality in high or constant demand.
IOW - Find your own niche.

Every time I see an article referencing pay rates I find that they are much lower then the going rate. However, I have found most hospitals end up having multiple pay scales which end up with veteran techs making close to new hires.

My Location is Southern California. In 2001 I started out of school making $21 an hour at a hospital working as a general Radiography tech.

I am now a Interventional (angiography) Radiographer and our base pay starts at $41 and tops at $51 after six years of experience.

Our students make nothing while training but a small stipend which is less then minimum wage. If hired they start off as General Rad tech at $31. General Rad Techs top off at $38 an hour.

If you go into CT add $5 an hour to General Techs.
