Depending on whether you are doing an inspiration or expiration film, you get the patient to hold their breath so that you can get the best static image of the lungs in the right position. If inspiration, you tell them to breathe in and hold so that the lungs are fully inflated when the picture is taken, and not partially inflated or deflated (to product the best image). Same goes with expiration where you tell them to breathe out to see the lungs with as little air as possible. Hope that helps! 8 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

to avoid organs movement and loss of data , in inspiration the lungs have enough air and show their full shape and we can analyse the costophrenic and cardiophrenic sinuses .in expiration mode , the result may be as same as some pathologies .however , we use expiration to evaluate pneomothorax .

ARE YOU FOR REAL??? Have you seen a blurry CXR??? Do you really think ANYTHING could be diagnosed from that??? Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Holding the breath is imperative only if you want to have anything diagnostic.
