Artifacts in II images
Jun 26 2009, 8:10 AM EDT | Post edited: Jun 26 2009, 8:10 AM EDT
A simple test discovered serious image lag/superimposing of previous images in an 1K x 1K Imager-Intensifyer system. This system was until recently used for UVI exams, and nobody knows how many times a marker ore a calcification in previous patiens has been mistaken for patology.. After this test, with imaging a lead-ruler in different positions, the laboratory was immediatly shut down. It was too expensive to repair, and the department bougth a new system some months later. Has anyone found similar problems? Do you find this valuable?

I once processed an unexposed CR cassette and saw remnants of the previous images on the resultant image. Since this was a CR unit... I thought maybe it could be low erasure efficiency. Nothing was done about this problem. It was demonstrated in several cases.

This article: http://www.e-radiography.net/nickspdf/QA%20of%20Computed%20Radiography%20Systems%20DRAFT4.0b.pdf explains a QC test to assess erasure efficiency. I did not do the test as I am a student and do not have the authority to do so.

I am also interested to know if anyone else has found this problem and how it was corrected.
Do you find this valuable?

Out of interest, was the II quite old? Did it use a video tube rather than a CCD? Do you find this valuable?
