X - Glossary of Terms


X-axis The horizontal line of a graph.
X-ray Penetrating, ionising electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength much shorter than that of visible light.
X-ray imaging system An X-ray system designed for radiography, tomography, or fluoroscopy.
X-ray quality The penetrability of an X-ray beam.
X-ray quantity The output intensity of an X-ray imaging system, measured in roentgens (R).
X-Ray spectrumThe relative distribution of different energies in a photon beam. See spectrum.
X-ray tube rating charts Charts that guide the technologist in the use of X-ray tubes.
XiphoidGreek xiphos = a sword, and eidos = shape or form; hence, sword-shaped
