Positioning
  • Patient in lateral recumbent position on the X-ray table with affected side down
  • Cushion for head
  • Provide support for opposite knee
  • Adjust rotation of body and leg until knee is in a true lateral position
  • Flex knee 5° to 10° (additional flexion may separate fracture fragment)
  • Align and centre long axis of patella to centre line of IR
  • CR directed to the midpatellofemoral joint, perpendicular to IR
