Ultrasound scanning protocol for DVT
Lower limb venous thrombosis (DVT)
Assess:
- Deep vein compressibility - CFV / SFVFV / Popliteal vein
- CFV phasicity
- Popliteal vein flow with augmentation
- Calf veins - PTV / Per V / ATV / Gastroc V / Soleal V compressibility
- Deep vein lumen
- Other causes of leg swelling:
- Bakers cyst
- haematoma
- oedema
- muscle tear
- tendon tear
Standard documentation:
- CFV - comp / non comp
- CFV spectral trace with Valsalva's or deep inspiration
- SFVFV Proximal / mid thigh / distal thigh - comp / non comp
- Pop V mid - comp / non comp
- Pop V spectral trace with augmentation
- Calf veins: PTV, Per V, ATV with colour doppler showing filling with augmentation and/or compression views
