Lateromedial
  • Position patient erect with their back against the upright bucky and elbow partially flexed
  • Body slightly rotated towards the affected side to bring humerus and shoulder in contact with IR
  • Internally rotate arm to achieve a lateral position (epicondyles perpendicular to IR)
  • Central ray to midpoint of humerus and perpendicular to IR
Mediolateral
  • Position patient erect and facing towards the upright bucky
  • Oblique patient as needed approximately 20° towards the affected side to enable close contact of humerus to IR
  • Flex elbow 90°
  • Central ray to midpoint of humerus and perpendicular to IR
Supine
  • May be performed supine using a lateromedial technique on the X-ray table
