Positioning
  • Patient supine on the table, arms at side or across upper chest
  • Cushion for patients head
  • Flex knee and hip on affected side
  • Abduct femur 45° from vertical (to place femoral neck parrallel to IR)
  • CR directed to midfemoral neck
Lauenstein / Hickey modification:
  • This method foreshortens the neck but demonstrates head and acetabulum well
  • Patient supine on the table, arms at side or across upper chest
  • Cushion for patients head
  • Rotate patient onto affected side until femur is in contact with the tabletop
  • Place support sponge under hip and knee of raised side
  • Flex knee and hip on affected side
  • CR directed to midfemoral neck
