First Trimester
transabdominal or transvaginal scanning maybe used to investigate an early pregnancy
Assess:
- Uterus myometrium / cervix
- Ovaries and adnexal regions
- Pouch of Douglas
- Gestational sac location / size / shape
- Identify embryo / fetal pole / number
- Yolk sac / amnion
- Fetal cardiac activity
- Fetal morphology
- Cranium
- Heart / stomach
- Bladder
- Cord insertion
- presence of limbs, hands and feet
Documentation for transabdominal scanning:
- Long view of the uterus right / midline / Left
- Trans view of uterus inferior / mid / fundus
- Ovarian measurements long / transverse
- Gestational sac measurements long and transverse for Mean Sac Diameter (MSD)
- Crown Rump Length (CRL) measurements of fetal pole / fetus
- Document fetal heart movement if present - M-mode and dynamic clipstore
- Fetal Morphology views (>11 weeks)
- Coronal head and body
- Trans cord insertion
- Stomach
- Bladder
