Positioning
  • Patient positioned on the X-ray table or barouche
  • Patient in the lateral recumbent position with the affected side down
  • Cushion for patients head
  • Flex knee of affected limb 45°, place opposite leg behind the affected limb
  • Place support under knee and leg as needed to place plantar surface perpendicular to IR
  • Position ankle and foot in a true lateral position (the lateral malleolus will be 1cm posterior to the medial malleolus)
  • Dorsiflex the foot so that that the plantar surface is at a right angle to the leg
  • CR directed 2.5cm inferior to the medial malleolus, perpendicular to the IR
