Ankylosing Spondylitis - wikiRadiography

Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic form of inflammatory arthritis. AS and its severity can affect patients of any age or gender. In severe cases, the spinal joints will fuse to a fixed immovable position due to the new bone growth caused by the inflammation. A stooped posture (kyphosis) may result. Unfortunately, the spine is not the only joints that can be affected. Joints of the chest may also fuse and “stiffen” making it difficult to breath. A complete medical history, physical exam and x-rays are used to diagnose AS along with a blood test and genetic testing.
