What effect does a patient having prosthesis have on setting your kvp and mAs?
Also on a separate note, why does one need to set a lower kvp and mas when not using a grid?

All digital x-ray equipments are giving wrong 2-D measurements irrespective of brands and no one interested to correct it.The digital medical X-ray image is superimposed image of multiple planes of our body. The plane away from the detector will have more magnification and plane near to the detector will have least magnification. Scanogram is a special type of X-ray used to measure the bone length. In orthopedic field the Scanograms are used to measure real size or length of the bone. An accurate and reproducible assessment of limb length is required for successful treatment. Nowadays Digital X rays are widely used and images on the films are either magnified or reduced. With the help of workstations and CPU the distance of the required images are measured and these measurements are inaccurate since they are measured at detector level and not at anatomical level. Work stations and CPU are not available as end users in all the places. In such conditions our simple techniques will help us to get the real size of images on the laser film.

Has anyone here had any experience with creating homemade phantoms for general radiography. I have read about a few simply constructed phantoms using perspex and aluminium but feel that the absorption characterstics at extra thicknesses combined with difference in potential at different thicknesses will make these phantoms much less representative. We have used a leg of lamb as a rough phantom for a c-spine, but we werent looking at doses or image quality. I get the feeling that using food could be a more useful way of constructing homemade phantoms to investigate exposure factors paticularly at different thicknesses and kV's. Anyone have any experience in this area.

Does anyone have any experience in radiological simulation through programs like Geant, PENELOPE and MC-GPU. I am looking at giving them a crack and wondered if anyone else played with these programs.

I thank you for these exposure factors but unforturnatly there is no comment on the exposure index these techniques create. Don't you think this should also be posted for those to review?

Someone please HELP.. I have been going so many different opinions from different techs that I dont know what too believe. When the people installed the new X-ray people they just left me here to figure out control panel all on my own. Mind you I have been out of doing X-Rays for 2 years now so I'm a little rusty on techniques. The ones programmed in are strange. They have a lumbar spine ap average pt at
75 KV, 630 ma, 160 mas, 250 ms.. (this ms number is on the anatomical area of control panel) I generally do larger patients and the rad is saying my films look under-penetrated.. Especially shoulders.. Even with AEC they look light. He says that he needs to see the whole scapula on the film.. I dont get that but OK.. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Should a 1 view KUB include diaphragm? I thought yes, but some techs have told me diaphragms are included in Acute Abdomen Series in the Abdomen Upright shot, and that a supine KUB should more importantly include symphysis pubis. Do supine KUB need to include diaphragm?

Trying to find more information on acceptable placement of side markers. Under the CAMRT standare of practice as a MRT we are responsible for the following.
() ensure that the orientation of the body and other pertinent parameters are marked correctly on the image and data ) Anyone know of a website that indicates the best placements. Also trying to standardize within our dept as we train students from 3 different schools. Thanks.
